A Wayne State University School of Medicine physician has published a study that found the use of electronic medical records for reviewing portal images greatly improved compliance with timeliness and record keeping.

Portal images are used to verify the positioning of patients during daily radiation treatments to improve the accuracy of the radiation field placement, to reduce exposure to normal tissue and to deliver accurate dose to tumor volumes.

Andre Konski, M.D., M.B.A., M.A., F.A.C.R., professor and Chair of the WSU Department of Radiation Oncology and chief of radiation therapy at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center, co-wrote the article, published in the July issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology.
